It has become common, that you only have 1 nipple left after breast cancer. In this article for Vrouw&Wijzer, I talk during an interview about how it works when a woman still chooses to get a nipple tattoo. It makes you whole! I did this completely selflessly for the spring edition of Vrouw&Wijzer.
Breast reconstruction is a major event. After all the operations and treatments are over, one more important treatment comes: the nipple and areola tattoo.
This treatment, the areola tattoo, is like a party. You close a drastic chapter of your life and feel complete and energetic again afterwards. And that is exactly what this closing chapter is all about! A look in the mirror after the treatment, seeing your complete body, that is indescribable for the client and at the same time immediately so ‘ordinary’.
I create areola tattoos with a 3D effect. This dermopigmentation technique is called aerola micropigmentation, or nipple tattooing that is virtually painless. The sophisticated technique and safe and approved pigmentation fluid ensures a natural result. The current 3D technique I use is so advanced that I can create the illusion of a nipple even without nipple reconstruction.
When the pigment of your skin has disappeared due to a scar, depigmented skin, medical tattooing is a fantastic solution. The original scar is still there, but with an appropriate skin colour tattooed on it, it is much less noticeable.
My way of working, sophisticated equipment and colouring technique makes the scar almost invisible.
