It will be you and you will have it. Puber and alopecia, as parents you don’t want to think about that. And yet it happens.

This autoimmune disease is one in which you can lose a lot of hair. It affects about 2 in 100 people, both men and women can get it. Young and old.

You notice you are losing hair. Just like that. You also notice your face changing, because no hair does something to your reflection.

Puberty and alopecia

Having a teenager and alopecia is difficult. An adolescent is in a life phase of discovering yourself, wanting to belong somewhere and finding out where you belong. And if your teenage daughter or son then suddenly loses a lot of hair, for instance eyebrows and eyelashes, fear and insecurity are just around the corner. Because even if you don’t want it, people will still say something about it.

And that does something to your daughter or son’s self-confidence, self-image and development.

Permanent make-up is just that helping hand to make you feel carefree and energetic again

I was so embarrassed

Of course there is a lot of understanding and respect. Much more attention is paid to bullying at school, being excluded and much more than before, everyone is allowed to be who they are, gender, colour or without hair… I also had hair fall out when I was young, I pulled out my hair myself. Due to stress, we know afterwards. So much so that I ended up wearing a hairpiece to cover it up. You can read my story in an article the newspaper once wrote about me. Now I do have the guts to tell my story. Now I have that nerve, but back then… I was ashamed.

Either way, as a parent, you want to take good care of your child and wish them a happy landing in society

Actually, I want to know how my child can help

And so about two years ago now, this girl came to my practice. With her mother. Suddenly she lost a lot of hair, which turned out to be alopecia. Her mother read about permanent make-up and that when you have this autoimmune disease you can get your radiance back with permanent make-up. And that’s what she wanted too, her daughter too of course.

And now, after 2 years she is the adolescent and alopecia but young woman

The girl is now a grown woman, not an adolescent and alopecia but beautiful, young woman with alopecia.

It still hurts, but with permanent make-up, she feels more complete. I was allowed to lightly touch up her eyebrows and eyeliner again and how good it looks on her! She gets another boost and I love to give it. A boost to feel the power in yourself and more easy. Without piercing eyes or comments like “are you sick” or just looking… with permanent make-up, that’s over.
