Colouring of scars

Scars after surgery, accidents or diseases such as breast cancer. Tinting of scars is often done in places where they bother you the most. Think of a scar on the shoulder, neck, face or hands. Tattooing a scar means camouflaging scars that bother you.

Colouring of scar burn

A lot is possible with medical tattooing. Medical tattooing goes beyond the visible of permanent make-up. It boosts your self-confidence, even, for example, with scars caused by a burn wound. Recovery is a personal process, the treatment unique and suitable for a specific spot on the body. This form of permanent make-up is also called dermatography or dermopigmentation.

A medical tattoo can:

  • make scars created in skin after surgery virtually invisible. Such as after breast reconstruction
  • restore the natural tone of scars caused by accidents, on limbs or in the face
  • restore hair to scars such as the beard or moustache in men
  • Make scars caused by a cleft lip significantly less visible

Pigmentation lost through surgery, accident or other causes

When the pigment of your skin has disappeared due to a scar, for example, this is called depigmented skin. And medical tattooing is a great solution to add more colour to the scar making it less noticeable. The original scar is still there, but with an appropriate skin colour tattooed on it, it is much less noticeable. This colouring is also done with a nipple tattoo . I then draw back the nipple with different colours of pigment; I see it as a ‘restoration’ of the body. Women often feel whole after this treatment, after everything that preceded it to fight the cancer such as chemo, radiotherapy and breast reconstruction.

My way of working, sophisticated equipment and technique of colouring scars makes the scar virtually invisible.

Medical tattoo a godsend for your appearance

Medical tattoo is another word dermopigmentation, or permanent make-up specifically for medical purposes. Such as colouring scars. When the pigment of your skin has disappeared due to a scar, which is called depigmented skin, medical tattooing is a fantastic solution. The scar is still there, only it is much less noticeable. Medical tattooing camouflages your scar.

Method of medical tattooing: dermopigmentation technique or dermatography

I camouflage your scar in an extremely careful and detailed manner. For this, I use the dermopigmentation technique, also known as dermatography.

Before the treatment, I go through all the steps with you. We have already had a telephone consultation before the treatment to go through your wishes and see what is possible for a scar tattoo. Feel free to ask questions during the treatment, but also before. You can also find the procedure for dermopigmentation at procedure medical tattoo.

Among other things, I treat scars

  • after a facelift
  • after a breast reduction
  • after breast reconstruction (breast cancer)
  • from burns
  • after surgery or an accident such as abrasions and stitches
  • from pigmentation
  • from sun damage
  • after a harelip correction

There are a number of different types of scars

By no means can I colour all scars with dermatography or other medical tattoo techniques. It depends on the stage the scar is in, among other things. Also how the scar has developed over the years. Below is an overview of the types of scars:

  • The normal mature scar is flat, not thickened and has an almost natural skin colour.
  • The immature scar is red in colour and sometimes thickened. It may hurt and itch. Maturation of this scar takes about 6 to 24 months.
  • The hypertrophic scar is red, often itchy and thickened. This growth at the wound edges and that process usually starts after several months after the wound has healed. It lasts for about seven months. After that, it stabilises and gradually decreases in colour and volume.
  • The widened scar is a surgical scar whose fine lines gradually change. These scars are not thickened and are often pink in colour.
  • The keloid is scar tissue that may continue to grow over the wound edges and may start immediately after wound closure or even years later. It is a benign proliferation. It can come from piercing, scratching, an insect bite, a burn or surgery.
  • The atrophic scar is flat, is lower than the skin around it and is usually small and round, for example after acne or chicken pox.
  • A scar contracture is a scar that can occur on a limb or joint.

Colours for a scar tattoo

I use a lot of colour and colour shades for a scar camouflage, creating the 3D effect. I take into account the winter and summer colour of the skin, for example. With medical tattooing, you regain the most natural look possible and your scar is rendered virtually invisible.

Customised scar tattoos

Scarring and colouring scars with dermopigmentation is a customised form of permanent make-up. Everyone is unique, the skin is unique and the story behind it is also unique. This is why I always work carefully and examine carefully whether the scar is suitable for colouring. It is therefore advisable to book a telephone consultation in advance. this can easily be done online.

Tinting of harelip scars

A harelip can be successfully surgically corrected at a young age, that too can be camouflaged with a scar tattoo.

But before a harelip can be given permanent make-up, several operations are often required first. Despite the surgeon’s wonderful work, it lacks symmetry and a natural complexion after surgery. This is often due to the absence of the cupido arch, the ‘heart’ of the lip.

Colouring the scars of a harelip provides a natural colour and appearance. I restore the lips’ natural colour and symmetrical shape by supplementing the skin with carefully chosen pigments, among other things.

Free consultation for dermatography

Everyone is different, every situation is different. And that’s why I offer a free consultation. In some cases, I cannot colour your scar (yet). The scar must be completely white, or matured. During this free consultation, I will discuss your options and wishes.

Making a choice is sometimes difficult. If you are in doubt, you can also read what clients experience, or check out the before and after photos. Images of a scar tattoo give an indication of how dermatography can also work for you.

Would you like to know more about the possibilities, about my working method and personal advice on dermopigmentation and medical tattoos in general? Then book a free, no-obligation consultation online, because every scar is different, so every scar tattoo is also different. You can find the results and reactions in the reviews and on the before and after images page.
