Just all of a sudden the hair falls out. More hair in the shower drain, you get a little worried. Hair on your head becomes thinner, bald patches. Others also notice hair loss on you and ask if you are all right… In your face, your eyebrows seem less full and you suspect that you also have fewer eyelash hairs. What is going on?
What’s going on, why so much hair loss? After visiting your GP or specialist, you turn out to have the autoimmune disease: alopecia.
On average in a day, you lose 100 hairs. This replenishes itself and it is quite normal to lose hair throughout the day. But when you suddenly lose a lot of hair in one location, it may be due to a form of alopecia. This involves baldness in several places on your body. This hair loss is caused by an attack by your own immune system on the hair roots. Why this autoimmune disease occurs and causes our own immune system to turn against our own healthy body is unclear. It occurs in about 2 in 100 people, both men and women can get it.
With permanent make-up, also called dermatopigmentation , scalp pigmentation or micro hair pigmentation , you get your radiance back. You immediately feel better. You don’t remove the disease with it, but you soften it.
In some forms of alopecia (hair loss), the eyebrows become bald, also called eyebrow alopecia, often referred to as alopecia areata. Thus, there are numerous other forms of alopecia that say something about hair loss and the location of hair loss.
It is very annoying when you are dealing with this form of hair loss, it affects you emotionally, it is upsetting and loss of a lot of hair can even cause panic. Eyebrows without hair lack expression. Eyebrows with less or no hair, change your appearance and you look ‘sick’.
You often lose hair when you have alopecia on eyebrows as well as eyelashes. Like with this girl. She came to my practice together with her mother. No, only the principle is the same. The depth of application of pigments into the skin is different. With tattoo and permanent make-up treatments, a certain colour pigment is applied into the skin with a needle. With tattooing, you work deeper into the skin layer, close to the connective tissue. This has consequences for the final colour result. In the face, and especially around the eye, the skin is very thin, so care is needed.
Permanent make-up is placed in the dermis. Furthermore, the equipment used, the composition of the pigments and the application techniques are different. Watch the video I made on the difference between permanent make-up and a regular tattoo.

Age plays no role in alopecia. Anyone can get it on the body, face and head. Permanent make-up works supportively, even for baldness on the head. I then put dots of pigment where there is hair loss.
