Permanent make-up, PMU has a certain shelf life. The intensity decreases over the years. After about 1-2 years, you need to have permanent make-up touched up if you want to keep the same look. Of course, you want to delay that moment as long as possible. How do you delay that moment, how do you take good care of your touched-up eyebrows?
Surely, UV radiation is the biggest culprit causing permanent make-up to fade. UV light, you can’t change that, but you can protect yourself. Even if the sun is not that bright, protect the PMU on your face with a cream with UV filter. At least factor 30, preferably 50!
There are some things you can’t stop. Cell renewal and the ageing process detract from the colour pigmented around your lips or eyebrows. And then it really is time to touch up the permanent make-up again.
1. Your look changes
You were radiant after your first permanent make-up treatment. Exactly the effect that permanent make-up has. It creates a fresh look and makes you the best version of yourself, without being noticeable. When you notice this changing, it’s time for a retouch.
2. Ageing changes your face
Are you heading towards or in the middle of menopause? Then it shows in your face. Fine lines, that is not a bad thing, they reflect life. Your skin becomes lighter in colour and you have less hair growth, causing your eyebrows to shorten, for example. And that gives a sad look.

This causes your permanent make-up to fade:
Light colours fade earlier than dark colours. Eyebrows and lips should be touched up after 1.5 to 2 years on average. Dark colours like eyeliner fade after 3 years.

Eventually, you can’t escape it, you make sure you have your PMU neatly touched up. And when the time comes, we immediately look at all the changes in your face.
