
In Belgium, the term Dossier Serious Illness is used. That term refers to the recognition of a serious illness by the insurer, leading to more extensive coverage of medical expenses, often including outpatient expenses, beyond hospitalisation. Women (and men) in Belgium can make use of reimbursement from the health insurance scheme – ‘serious illness file’ – for a (nipple) tattoo after (breast) cancer.
On referral from the plastic surgeon, I tattoo a nipple tattoo. To qualify for reimbursement, a RIZIV code is required. I cannot give you this code as I am not a doctor or nurse.
If your situation falls under ‘serious illness file’, you may be entitled to reimbursement for a nipple tattoo. Check your hospitalisation insurance and the serious illness file. This dossier also provides reimbursement for extra physiotherapy and bandages, for example. Find out how much. Ask about the conditions for reimbursement of nipple tattooing without RIZIV code.
